Dear Sir/Madam:
Re. Reference for Rosalind Davis
Rosalind designed and delivered a four-week mixed media programme to a group of Yr. 10 students in July 2008. The aim of the project was to teach the students new painting, drawing and embroidery techniques through experimentation by creating a mixed media artwork as a final outcome.
The students enjoyed engaging with the new techniques. Many had never used paints or tried embroidery before. Rosalind showed them works by other contemporary artists and created discussions about their work, their successes and issues that arose within the projects.
Rosalind also spoke to the students about her background, her career pathway while also demonstrating her current work which they found inspirational. The students were all proud of their achievements and they gave very good feedback about the workshops.
‘Thank you so much for teaching everything. I had a wonderful time and I learnt so many things that will stay with me forever. Your work is really amazing and I aspire to one day, be as good as you!’
Student from the Deptford X Project.
The programme concluded with an exhibition at the Stephen Lawrence Centre as part of the Deptford X Arts Festival. Rosalind exhibited her work alongside the student’s final artworks.
I found Rosalind to be professional, passionate about her work and teaching young people, energetic and extremely talented. She engaged pupils with a programme that stretched their learning and their design experience. The students not only exhibited their final pieces, but have now got a valuable piece of work for their portfolios.
