Paintings: Survival
Davis seeks out structures that may seem neglected but for the individuals who use these buildings they are a refuge and of vital importance. They were or are a means of survival in bleak urban cityscapes. Often, the buildings are community based in areas of widespread social deprivation that may seem hostile, threatening or full of pathos.

This work was inspired by a trip to Cameroon, West Africa. In Cameroon, as in many countries and societies, the church is the pillar of the community.
However I am always interested in its diverse meanings to different people, the ambiguous and sometimes menacing elements of the church, in contrast to a place where people find community, refuge and peace.
In many countries its all-pervading ability to ingratiate itself, its beliefs and ethical code, in to each individual and society as a whole is complex
